An open working environment which highlights the history and tradition.

Built with sustainability and the company's "Never Idle" culture in mind, the new Valvoline headquarters celebrates the brand’s 150-year history and heritage as a leading marketer, distributor, and producer of automotive and industrial products and services while reflecting its collaborative and innovative culture as well as its vision for the future.

The four-story, 15,050-square-meters building, located in Lexington, KY, was designed as a composition of two four-story office bars connected by a central glass volume. In plan and in elevation, it forms a dynamic V-shape—an architectural underscore of the Valvoline brand as well as a physical manifestation of the company’s forward-leaning approach to business.

The open office environment allows for natural daylighting and views of the surrounding landscape, facilitating a healthy lifestyle for employees. The double-height lobby space showcases Valvoline’s identity exhibitions, as well as amenities such as a cafeteria, fitness center, and credit union. Car-themed wall décor and vehicular-shaped furniture highlight the company’s dedication to engine performance.

SCB’s design turned the space into a more collaborative, open work environment, transforming Valvoline’s headquarters from a workspace where individual offices were the norm to a culture of shared space.
